NIKA & UKC – 2021 Dinner and Awards Presentation
This year the NIKA and UKC awards event took place in the Tullyglass Hotel, Ballymena and it saw a sell-out audience of 200 competitors, family and friends of karting attend the evening. Everything ran like clockwork and provided a truly memorable night for all, thanks to the organisers, lead by Fay Weir, who put her heart and soul into ensuring everything on the evening was a success. Also, a big thanks to the hotel for excellent food and service.
Superkart driver Richard Dewart ably MC’d the event and awards were presented by the special guest, internationally renowned motorbike road racer, Ryan Farquhar. Ryan was kept busy throughout the evening giving out nearly 100 trophies and awards and the event ran on into the early hours of the morning with dancing to the DJ Saxaphonic’s.
During the evening there were many notably highlights; the very emotionally tribute by Fay on behalf of her family to their late father George Wier and the presentation of the trophies to the winners of his Memorial Races; the appeal for more “young” blood to come into the administration of karting at a local club level and increased support for the NIKA committee; and finally, the presentation of the NIKA special award of financial support to the placed drivers in the NIKA Championship. This saw the 8 drivers in first, second and third place in the NIKA Championship draw for £1000, £500 and £300 respectively. With the £1000 going to a very shocked and surprised 250 Superkart driver, Stuart Coey.
From my own perspective I was happy to be involved and provide photos for the rolling slideshow which ran prior to the awards and the individual photos of each of the award winners displayed as they got their trophies. To say it was a busy evening for me is the understatement, taking just over 400 shots and nearly 300 making the final cut. A few are shown here but check out the link below for the full portfolio and please consider supporting Cromlin Images by purchasing some of the photos both from the dinner or shots I’ve have taken throughout the year.
