About
My Story
Hi – Cromlin Images is the mind child of myself, Robert Sergeant. I am an enthusiastic photographer with a passion to get out and take photographs of sport, but I’ve also been known to point my camera at virtually anything given the opportunity!!
I am based in Culcavey on the outskirts of Hillsborough, Co Down, a great central location to access sporting activities across Northern Ireland. With many great venues within a 30 minutes’ drive from home. While I am happy to photograph any sport, I find that I get the most enjoyment from shooting motorsport track-side.
When taking photos, I always have a vision in my mind of how I would eventual like the final image to turn out. The first task I consider, before pressing the shutter button, is to how do I get into the right place to eliminate as many of the distractions from the background as possible while still capturing the action. When in the right place this allows me concentrate on capturing the decisive moments of action, but that’s not the end of the process. In today’s world an image lives or dies during the processing stage and this is an area I consider to be one of my strengths – making good photographs better, while remaining true to the reality.
While photography is not my professional career, that does not make me any less competitive. Some of the best photographers in Northern Ireland are involved in the Camera Club scene where their skills are fully tested to their limits. Currently, I compete for the CPA Camera Club in the Northern Ireland Photographic Association (NIPA). I hold my Certificate of Merit from the PAGB and two recent motorsport photos scored full marks in the NIPA Regional competition – images featured below.
